Inspired by Afro-Surrealist writer Suzanne Césaire’s concept of “the domain of the marvelous, and the fantastic”, a realm free of colonial limitations and dichotomies, this session will create a space to harness the power of imagination to dream and co-create alternative African realities/narratives.
How have creative movements like Afro-Surrealism, and Afrofuturism contributed to reclaiming African identities? Is there a “crisis of imagination” in contemporary African contexts? How can imagination and dreaming become tools for co-creating alternative African futures? This session will blend critical dialogue with creative practice to inspire participants to reimagine African narratives and co-create new visions of the future.
